07 November 2016 Indian fugitive criminal Abdur Rauf Daud Merchant has walked out of jail three days after a Dhaka court cleared him of charges over suspicious movement.

Daud, a suspected associate of underworld don Daud Ibrahim, went out of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj around 4:30pm yesterday, Jahangir Kabir, senior jail superintendent of the prison, confirmed The Daily Star today.

He has been released on completing of all legal procedure, he said.

Daud Merchant, a convicted killer of music baron Gulshan Kumar, was arrested in Brahmanbaria 2009 for intruding into Bangladesh.

In December 2014, he obtained bail in the case and was subsequently released from Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur. He, however, was rearrested from outside the jail.

Daud was then produced before a Dhaka court, which placed him on a three-day remand in the case filed under section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for suspicious movement.
