BNP-Jamaat launches secret killings: PM

শনিবার, ৩০ এপ্রিল ২০১৬

30 April 2016 Accusing BNP-Jamaat nexus of committing secret killings, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said they have launched the heinous act failing to topple the government.

"The BNP-Jamaat clique does not want development of the people...they cannot give anything except burning people to death and destruction," she said.

"Being failed to overthrow the government, they have chosen the path of killing teachers and the common people...they are killing teachers and the common people selectively," she added.

The prime minister said this while addressing a function arranged on the occasion of inauguration of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute and laying the foundation stone of Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Dental College in Gopalganj this morning.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health Ministry Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and former health adviser to the prime minister, Professor Dr Modasser Ali also spoke on the occasion.

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek Swapan delivered the welcome address, while Health Secretary Syed Manjurul Islam presided over the function.

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu and Railway Minister Mazibul Haque were present on the dais.

From the function, Sheikh Hasina also inaugurated the newly-constructed Chapail Bridge over Madhumati River, Tungipara Head Post Office, Gopalganj District Shishu Academy Complex and Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Bhaban by unveiling their plaques.

The premier laid the foundation stones of Gopalganj Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj 10 Kilowatt FM Radio Station, Gopalganj-Kashiani-Gobra Rail Line Project and Tungipara and Muksudpur Upazila Muktijoddha Complexes.

The premier said the BNP-Jamaat conducted attacks on mosques, temples and churches when they were in power. "They even killed a Krishak League leader inside a mosque in Bogra during their rule," she said.

Those who were engaged in money laundering, corruption and embezzling orphans' money cannot change the fate of the common people, she said.

Referring to the construction of Padma Bridge, the prime minister said starting work on the bridge with the country's own funding was a challenge for the government.

In this connection, she said the World Bank had brought baseless allegation of conspiracy regarding the bridge to undermine her government and the countrymen. "But the allegation was proved wrong," she said.

She said the construction of the bridge would have been advanced further, had the World Bank not suspended the funding.

Sheikh Hasina categorically said that she is doing politics to change the fate of the common people and not to change her own fate.

She said her government has been working hard to improve the standard of living of the people through ensuring their basic rights like food, clothing, medicare, education and housing.

The country has been turned into food-surplus one from food-deficit nation. "The success did not come overnight...it's the result of sincere efforts and firm commitment of the government, she said.

Referring to country's tremendous development in the last seven and a half years, she said many described the success as surprising. "But it's not surprising, the successes came due to the people's unflinching trust in the government and also the government's confidence in the people," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said due to politics of revenge by the BNP-Jamaat alliance government, the southern region of the country particularly Gopalganj had always been neglected for a long time.

"But the government of Awami League implemented massive development programmes in this region as it believes in a balanced development policy for all parts of the country," she said.

While talking about the development in the health sector, the premier said the government has formulated a pro-people health policy to reach healthcare services to the people's doorsteps.

In this connection, she spelled out different steps for the development of health sector. She said steps have been taken to set up a medical university in all divisions of the country.
