Following a meeting with law enforcers in Dhaka on Saturday, he said, “The law and order situation is fully under control. There is nothing to be worried about.”

The meeting was held 10 days before the elections to 234 municipalities.

Asked if there was any possibility of a deployment of troops for the polls, Ahmad said, “BGB and RAB have said they will deploy more members. They have full control over the law and order situation, which doesn’t require a deployment of troops.”

Election commissioners, officials from the home ministry, police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and district administration, and returning officers were present at the meeting.

However, there was no representation from the armed forces.
