07 November 2015 Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has claimed that ‘some’ of those involved in the killings of bloggers have been identified.

“Some of them have been identified and attempts are on to indentify the rest,” he told journalists after at a programme on Saturday.

Five secular bloggers and writers have been hacked to death by suspected Islamist radicals in a similar way over the last eight months but police investigations have not shown much, except coming up with ‘some names’.

The minister, however, said that trials would be held for all the killings. “Chargesheets have been submitted in two cases already and are under process in two more.”

Denying any presence of the Middle East-based terror outfit Islamic State (IS) in Bangladesh, he said, “The forces that were defeated in the 1971 [Liberation War] are the IS. They are the militants. They are Jamaat-Shibir.”

The recent killings of freethinkers are part of a conspiracy to destabilise the country, claimed the home minister.

“It is part of local and foreign conspiracies. War crimes trials are on in the country. These killings are being carried out to foil the trials.”

The law enforcement agencies had been kept on the highest alert, he said.
